Injuries & Conditions That May Require Orthopaedic Surgery

Your hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders are essential to daily life, from working and exercising to simple tasks like opening a door or holding a cup. When pain, weakness, or limited movement disrupts your routine, finding the right treatment from a Sugar Land orthopaedic hand, wrist, and surgery doctor can make all the difference.

Some conditions heal with therapy, bracing, or injections, while others require surgical intervention to restore strength and prevent long-term complications. In Sugar Land, Texas, Dr. David R. Sollaccio, a trusted hand doctor, wrist doctor, and elbow doctor, provides expert care with a patient-first approach, ensuring each treatment plan is tailored to your unique needs and goals.

Bone Fractures

A fracture, or broken bone, in the hand, wrist, elbow, or shoulder can make even simple movements painful. While some breaks heal with casting or splinting, others require surgical intervention to ensure proper alignment and healing. Without the right treatment, fractures can lead to stiffness, chronic pain, or loss of function. We help patients recover fully with a focus on restoring mobility and preventing future complications.

Torn Ligaments & Tendons

Ligaments and tendons are responsible for stability and movement, but they can tear from injury, strain, or wear over time. When this happens, you may experience weakness, swelling, and pain that won’t go away. We offer non-surgical treatments like therapy and bracing, but in severe cases, surgical repair is needed to restore joint function and prevent further damage.

Dislocations

A dislocated shoulder, elbow, or finger is not only painful; it can also lead to weakness and recurrent instability if the surrounding structures don’t heal properly. While realigning the joint provides immediate relief, torn or damaged ligaments may require surgical repair to ensure long-term stability. Our approach focuses on joint strengthening and rehabilitation, helping patients regain confidence in their movement.

Arthritis

Chronic joint pain, stiffness, and inflammation caused by arthritis can make it hard to stay active. Whether you have osteoarthritis from wear and tear or rheumatoid arthritis, we help you manage symptoms with therapy, medications, and injections. If arthritis progresses and limits mobility, joint fusion or replacement surgery may be the best option for lasting relief.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome & Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

Compression of the median nerve in the wrist (carpal tunnel syndrome) or the ulnar nerve in the elbow (cubital tunnel syndrome) can cause numbness, tingling, and muscle weakness in the hand and fingers, often making daily tasks more difficult. Early treatment with bracing, therapy, and activity modifications can relieve symptoms, but surgical decompression may be necessary to free the nerve and restore function if symptoms persist.

Trigger Finger

If your finger or thumb locks, clicks, or feels stiff, you may have trigger finger, a condition caused by tendon irritation. This can make gripping objects painful and impact your ability to perform everyday tasks. We offer conservative treatments like splinting and injections, but if the issue worsens, a quick, minimally invasive procedure can restore smooth, pain-free movement.

Golfer’s Elbow & Tennis Elbow

Repetitive stress from sports, work, or daily activities can lead to tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) or golf elbow (medial epicondylitis), causing pain and weakness in the forearm and elbow. Many cases improve with therapy, bracing, and targeted injections, but when torn or damaged tendons are involved, surgical procedures may be needed to repair the tendon and restore strength.

Elbow Sprain Treatment & Surgery

A sprained elbow can happen unexpectedly, whether from a fall, sudden movement, or sports injury. While mild sprains heal with rest and bracing, more severe cases may involve torn ligaments that lead to instability and ongoing pain. We tailor treatment to your needs, offering physical therapy, pain management, and when necessary, minimally invasive surgery to restore elbow strength.

Tennis Elbow Treatment & Surgery

Constant gripping, lifting, or repetitive motions can irritate the tendons in the elbow, leading to tennis elbow and making everyday tasks painful. We help patients regain strength through targeted therapy, bracing, and injections. If symptoms persist and tendon damage is present, we perform minimally invasive procedures to repair the tissue and reduce inflammation.

Golfer’s Elbow Treatment & Surgery

When the inner tendons of the elbow become inflamed from overuse, even simple tasks like gripping a golf club, carrying a bag, or typing can be painful. Our approach includes anti-inflammatory treatments, therapy, and bracing to ease tension and promote healing. If needed, surgical options can remove damaged tendon tissue and restore normal movement.

Arthritis Treatment & Surgery

Arthritis doesn’t just cause joint pain; it can gradually limit movement, making simple tasks more difficult. We help patients manage symptoms, preserve mobility, and slow progression with customized therapy, joint injections, and medications. For patients with advanced arthritis, joint fusion or replacement surgery may provide long-term relief and allow for greater independence.

Elbow Pain Treatment & Surgery

Elbow pain can stem from overuse, injury, or degenerative conditions, making everyday movements uncomfortable. Our focus is on restoring comfort and mobility through bracing, therapy, and pain management techniques. If a structural issue like torn tendons or instability is the cause, we may recommend surgical intervention to ensure lasting relief.

Hand & Wrist Pain Treatment & Surgery

Pain in the hand or wrist can make basic movements like writing, lifting, or gripping difficult. Whether caused by nerve compression, arthritis, or an overuse injury, we develop treatment plans that focus on your daily needs. We start with conservative care like therapy and splinting, but for progressive conditions or structural issues, surgery may be the best option.

Tendinitis Treatment & Surgery

Tendinitis occurs when the tendons in the wrist, elbow, or shoulder become irritated due to overuse or sudden strain. Our treatment approach focuses on reducing inflammation, improving flexibility, and strengthening the affected area. While therapy and bracing are effective for most cases, surgical intervention may be necessary for chronic pain or torn tendons.

Sports Injuries Rehabilitation, Treatment, & Surgery

Athletes and active individuals rely on their upper body strength and flexibility, but repetitive stress and sudden impacts can lead to overuse injuries, ligament tears, or joint instability. We offer personalized rehab programs along with surgical solutions when needed, ensuring you return to your sport stronger and more resilient.

Bursitis Treatment & Surgery

Bursitis develops when the fluid-filled sacs that cushion your joints become inflamed, leading to stiffness and pain, particularly in the elbow or shoulder. Our treatments focus on reducing swelling and improving movement with targeted therapy, anti-inflammatory treatments, and injections. If severe inflammation persists, minimally invasive procedures can help relieve pressure.

Shoulder Pain Treatment & Surgery

Your shoulder joint is essential for lifting, reaching, and stability, but injuries like rotator cuff tears, bursitis, and arthritis can make these movements painful. We help restore strength and range of motion through therapy, guided injections, and customized rehabilitation programs. If pain persists, arthroscopic surgery may be recommended to repair damaged tissue and restore full mobility.

What Patients Are Saying

Hear from real patients about their experiences with Dr. Sollaccio’s expert care and personalized treatment.

I recently had a very serious incident that shattered my right arm, and wrist (and other issues) which desperately needed surgery. I was referred to Dr. Sollaccio who saw me the same day and performed the surgery the following day! He did an awesome job as indicated by the fact that I am typing this message easily and pain free. And great bedside manor, very patient, I never felt rushed. It also didn’t hurt that when other doctors and nurses asked who did my surgery and I told them, it was almost a unanimous response, ‘Ohhh you got lucky, he’s good!’ Highly recommended.

Dr. Sollaccio is incredible. When I got to him my injury was two days old, infection was setting in and acute compartment syndrome. Dr. S took one look, scheduled surgery for the same night and by the time I woke up from surgery all of my excruciating pain was gone. His energy is calming and comforting, he is patient and takes the time to explain details and answer all questions. He’s such a caring Dr and truly wants the best for his patients. Thank you Dr. Sollaccio for everything you’ve done for me!

Dr. Sollaccio has provided me with excellent care and follow-up from my surgery. By the way, you can barely see the sutures and it has only been 6 weeks post operation – it is as though a plastic surgeon did the surgery. Also, the surgery is very successful
