Injuries & Conditions That May Require Orthopaedic Surgery

When pain, stiffness, or weakness begins affecting your hand, wrist, elbow, or shoulder, it can interfere with everything from work to daily activities. Some conditions improve with therapy and non-invasive treatments, while others, especially those involving torn ligaments, fractures, or nerve compression, may require a visit to a Bellaire orthopedic hand, wrist, and elbow surgery center.

Dr. David Sollaccio provides personalized treatment plans to help patients in Bellaire, TX regain mobility, reduce pain, and restore function with the most effective approach for their condition.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome & Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

Nerve compression in the wrist (carpal tunnel syndrome) or elbow (cubital tunnel syndrome) can cause numbness, tingling, and weakness, making simple tasks like gripping objects or typing difficult. Early intervention with splinting, therapy, and activity modifications can help manage symptoms, but in advanced cases, surgical decompression may be necessary to relieve pressure on the nerve and prevent permanent damage.

Torn Ligaments & Tendons

Ligaments and tendons are essential for stability and movement, but repetitive stress, injury, or aging can cause tears that lead to pain, weakness, and limited mobility. While some injuries heal with therapy and bracing, severe ligament or tendon damage may require surgical repair to prevent long-term instability. Our goal is to restore strength and function with the least invasive treatment possible.

Arthritis

Arthritis is more than just joint pain; it can cause chronic inflammation, stiffness, and reduced range of motion. Whether due to osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, we help manage symptoms with therapy, joint injections, and medications. For patients with severe arthritis that limits mobility, joint fusion or replacement surgery can help restore comfort and improve daily function.

Trigger Finger

Trigger finger makes gripping and flexing the fingers difficult due to thickened tendons that catch when moving. If left untreated, the condition can worsen, leading to painful locking or clicking when bending or straightening the digit. We offer splinting, therapy, and injections, but for persistent cases, a quick, minimally invasive procedure can restore natural finger movement.

Bone Fractures

Fractures, or broken bones, in the hand, wrist, elbow, or shoulder can make even the simplest movements painful. While some breaks heal with casting or splinting, more complex fractures may require surgical intervention to ensure proper alignment and stability. Without treatment, fractures can lead to long-term weakness, stiffness, or misalignment, affecting overall function.

Dislocations

A dislocated joint can weaken the surrounding ligaments and tendons, increasing the risk of future dislocations. While realigning the joint is an important first step, proper healing requires stabilization and rehabilitation. If ligament or tendon damage occurs, surgical repair may be needed to ensure long-term joint stability.

Golfer’s Elbow & Tennis Elbow

Overuse of the forearm muscles and tendons can lead to golf elbow (medial epicondylitis) or tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis), causing pain and weakness that can interfere with daily tasks. Many cases respond well to therapy, bracing, and injections, but when torn or damaged tendons are present, surgical procedures may be necessary to remove scar tissue and promote healing.

Elbow Sprain Treatment & Surgery

An elbow sprain happens when the ligaments supporting the joint are overstretched or torn, leading to pain, swelling, and weakness. While mild sprains heal with bracing and therapy, more severe injuries involving torn or damaged ligaments may require surgical repair to restore full strength and stability.

Hand & Wrist Pain Treatment & Surgery

Your hands and wrists are in constant motion, making them prone to nerve compression, arthritis, and overuse injuries. Whether you’re experiencing stiffness, numbness, or persistent discomfort, we tailor treatment to your specific condition. Many patients find relief with splinting, therapy, and injections, while others may benefit from surgical procedures to restore function.

Golfer’s Elbow Elbow Treatment & Surgery

Golf elbow (medial epicondylitis) is caused by overuse of the tendons on the inner elbow, leading to pain, inflammation, and reduced grip strength. Treatment begins with therapy, bracing, and anti-inflammatory care, but if tendon damage is severe, minimally invasive procedures may be necessary to promote healing and restore movement.

Sports Injuries Rehabilitation, Treatment, & Surgery

Athletes of all levels, from professionals to weekend warriors, can experience overuse injuries, ligament tears, or joint instability in the hand, wrist, elbow, or shoulder. Our comprehensive approach includes rehabilitation programs, therapy, and when needed, surgical intervention, helping you recover safely and return to your sport stronger than before.

Tennis Elbow Treatment & Surgery

Tennis elbow, also known as lateral epicondylitis, develops from repetitive forearm motion, leading to pain and weakness in the outer elbow. Many cases improve with therapy and bracing, but persistent pain from torn or damaged tendons may require surgical repair to restore strength and prevent long-term discomfort.

Shoulder Pain Treatment & Surgery

The shoulder joint is crucial for lifting, reaching, and rotational movement, but it’s also prone to rotator cuff tears, arthritis, and bursitis. We create customized treatment plans using therapy, injections, and rehabilitation, with surgical options available for severe cases that require structural repair.

Tendinitis Treatment & Surgery

Tendinitis occurs when tendons in the wrist, elbow, or shoulder become inflamed from overuse, leading to pain, stiffness, and swelling. While therapy, bracing, and anti-inflammatory treatments help most cases, chronic tendinitis or tendon tears may require surgical intervention to restore function and movement.

Arthritis Treatment & Surgery

Arthritis can cause joint stiffness, inflammation, and persistent pain, making it difficult to stay active. We focus on slowing progression and relieving symptoms with medications, therapy, and joint injections. For advanced arthritis, joint fusion or replacement surgery may be the best option to restore mobility and improve quality of life.

Bursitis Treatment & Surgery

When the bursae, small fluid-filled sacs that cushion joints, become inflamed, stiffness and pain can develop, particularly in the elbow and shoulder. Our goal is to reduce swelling, relieve discomfort, and improve movement through targeted therapy, injections, and minimally invasive procedures when needed.

Elbow Pain Treatment & Surgery

Elbow pain can result from overuse, injuries, or degenerative conditions and affect daily activities. We offer non-surgical treatments like therapy, bracing, and guided injections, but if pain persists due to torn ligaments or joint instability, surgical intervention may be necessary for lasting relief.

What Patients Are Saying

Hear from real patients about their experiences with Dr. Sollaccio’s expert care and personalized treatment.

I recently had a very serious incident that shattered my right arm, and wrist (and other issues) which desperately needed surgery. I was referred to Dr. Sollaccio who saw me the same day and performed the surgery the following day! He did an awesome job as indicated by the fact that I am typing this message easily and pain free. And great bedside manor, very patient, I never felt rushed. It also didn’t hurt that when other doctors and nurses asked who did my surgery and I told them, it was almost a unanimous response, ‘Ohhh you got lucky, he’s good!’ Highly recommended.

Dr. Sollaccio is incredible. When I got to him my injury was two days old, infection was setting in and acute compartment syndrome. Dr. S took one look, scheduled surgery for the same night and by the time I woke up from surgery all of my excruciating pain was gone. His energy is calming and comforting, he is patient and takes the time to explain details and answer all questions. He’s such a caring Dr and truly wants the best for his patients. Dr. Sollaccio has provided me with excellent care and follow-up from my surgery. By the way, you can barely see the sutures and it has only been 6 weeks post operation – it is as though a plastic surgeon did the surgery. Also, the surgery is very successful
