Injuries & Conditions That May Require Orthopaedic Surgery

Your hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders are involved in nearly every movement you make. When pain, stiffness, or injury affects these joints, it can make even simple tasks difficult. Whether you’re recovering from sports injuries, dislocations, or chronic conditions like arthritis, finding the right treatment from a League City orthopaedic hand, wrist, and elbow surgery expert is essential.

Some conditions improve with therapy, bracing, or injections, while others, like torn or damaged ligaments and tendons, may require surgical intervention to restore mobility. Dr. David R. Sollaccio, a trusted hand doctor, wrist doctor, and elbow doctor, provides expert care in Harris County, tailoring treatments to fit your lifestyle and needs.

Bone Fractures

A broken, or fractured, bone can impact your ability to move freely, especially in the hands, wrists, elbows, or shoulders. Some fractures heal with splints or casts, but complex breaks may require surgical stabilization with plates, screws, or pins to ensure proper healing. Without the right care, fractures can lead to chronic stiffness, misalignment, or reduced strength.

Torn Ligaments & Tendons

Ligaments and tendons keep your joints stable and functional, but sports injuries, overuse, or sudden trauma can cause tears or damage that lead to weakness, swelling, and pain. While mild cases can improve with therapy and bracing, severe injuries may need surgical repair to restore strength and prevent further joint instability.

Dislocations

A dislocated joint is not just painful; it can weaken the surrounding ligaments and tendons, increasing the risk of future instability or re-injury. The elbow, shoulder, and fingers are especially prone to dislocations. We focus on realignment, strengthening, and joint stabilization, with surgical options available if supporting structures have been torn or damaged.

Arthritis

Arthritis can lead to stiffness, swelling, and limited mobility over time. Whether caused by wear and tear (osteoarthritis) or inflammation (rheumatoid arthritis), we offer customized treatments, including therapy, joint injections, and medications. If arthritis becomes severe, joint fusion or replacement surgery may help restore function and relieve discomfort.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome & Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

Nerve compression in the wrist (carpal tunnel syndrome) or elbow (cubital tunnel syndrome) can cause tingling, numbness, and weakness, affecting daily tasks like gripping or typing. Early treatment with therapy and splinting can help, but in severe cases, surgical decompression may be needed to relieve pressure on the nerve and prevent long-term damage.

Trigger Finger

If your finger or thumb locks, clicks, or gets stuck in a bent position, you may have trigger finger, a condition where the tendon becomes irritated and inflamed. We provide therapy, splinting, and injections to reduce inflammation, and for persistent cases, a quick, minimally invasive procedure can restore smooth, pain-free movement.

Golfer’s Elbow & Tennis Elbow

Repetitive motion and overuse can lead to tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) or golf elbow (medial epicondylitis), causing pain and weakness in the forearm. While most cases improve with therapy and bracing, severe cases with torn or damaged tendons may require surgical intervention to restore function.

Tendinitis Treatment & Surgery

Tendinitis occurs when tendons become inflamed from overuse or repetitive movement, leading to pain and stiffness. We focus on reducing inflammation and strengthening the affected area with therapy, bracing, and injections. If tendon damage is severe, surgical procedures may be required to repair or remove damaged tissue.

Sports Injuries Rehabilitation, Treatment, & Surgery

Athletes put immense stress on their joints, ligaments, and tendons, making them vulnerable to sprains, strains, and dislocations. We offer rehabilitation programs, therapy, and advanced surgical treatments to help you heal quickly and return to the activities you love.

Elbow Sprain Treatment & Surgery

A sprained elbow can happen from a fall, sudden impact, or sports injury, leading to pain, swelling, and joint instability. We create customized treatment plans, offering bracing, therapy, and surgical options for cases involving torn ligaments that require repair.

Tennis Elbow Treatment & Surgery

Tennis elbow can cause chronic pain and inflammation in the forearm, making lifting and gripping difficult. Many cases improve with therapy and injections, but severe cases involving tendon damage may need surgical intervention to remove scar tissue and promote healing.

Golfer’s Elbow Treatment & Surgery

Pain on the inner elbow from golf elbow can interfere with daily activities, work, and sports. We use targeted therapy, bracing, and pain management to ease discomfort, and if symptoms persist, minimally invasive surgery can restore full function.

Arthritis Treatment & Surgery

Arthritis is a progressive condition that can cause chronic pain, stiffness, and swelling in the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder joints. Over time, inflammation can lead to reduced mobility and difficulty with daily activities like gripping, lifting, or reaching. We offer personalized treatment options, including physical therapy, joint injections, and medications to manage symptoms and slow progression.

Bursitis Treatment & Surgery

Inflammation in the bursae, small sacs that cushion the joints, can cause swelling and discomfort in the elbow or shoulder. We begin treatment with anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy, and activity modification to ease symptoms. If pain persists despite conservative care, minimally invasive procedures such as aspiration or bursectomy may be recommended to remove excess fluid, relieve pressure, and restore comfortable movement.

Elbow Pain Treatment & Surgery

Pain in the elbow joint can result from arthritis, nerve compression, or tendon injuries. Our approach includes physical therapy, bracing, pain management injections, and strengthening exercises to support healing. For chronic conditions or injuries involving torn tendons or joint instability, surgical options such as ligament repair, decompression, or joint resurfacing can provide lasting relief and restore full range of motion.

Hand & Wrist Pain Treatment & Surgery

From carpal tunnel syndrome to arthritis, we offer personalized treatments for hand and wrist pain, including splinting, injections, and minimally invasive surgery when needed. We focus on restoring dexterity, reducing pain, and preventing further complications, so you can continue daily activities without discomfort.

Shoulder Pain Treatment & Surgery

Rotator cuff injuries, arthritis, and tendon tears can all contribute to shoulder pain and weakness. Therapy, guided injections, and pain management techniques can help many patients regain movement. For more severe cases involving torn ligaments or persistent joint instability, arthroscopic surgery, rotator cuff repair, or joint replacement may be necessary to restore full shoulder function and prevent long-term discomfort.

What Patients Are Saying

Hear from real patients about their experiences with Dr. Sollaccio’s expert care and personalized treatment.

I recently had a very serious incident that shattered my right arm, and wrist (and other issues) which desperately needed surgery. I was referred to Dr. Sollaccio who saw me the same day and performed the surgery the following day! He did an awesome job as indicated by the fact that I am typing this message easily and pain free. And great bedside manor, very patient, I never felt rushed. It also didn’t hurt that when other doctors and nurses asked who did my surgery and I told them, it was almost a unanimous response, ‘Ohhh you got lucky, he’s good!’ Highly recommended.

T.L.

Dr. Sollaccio is incredible. When I got to him my injury was two days old, infection was setting in and acute compartment syndrome. Dr. S took one look, scheduled surgery for the same night and by the time I woke up from surgery all of my excruciating pain was gone. His energy is calming and comforting, he is patient and takes the time to explain details and answer all questions. He’s such a caring Dr and truly wants the best for his patients. Thank you Dr. Sollaccio for everything you’ve done for me!

Dr. Sollaccio has provided me with excellent care and follow-up from my surgery. By the way, you can barely see the sutures and it has only been 6 weeks post operation – it is as though a plastic surgeon did the surgery. Also, the surgery is very successful
