Injuries & Conditions That May Require Orthopaedic Surgery

Every movement you make, whether it’s lifting, gripping, or simply reaching, relies on the strength and stability of your hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. When an injury, chronic pain, or a degenerative condition makes those movements difficult, the right care from a Pasadena orthopaedic hand, wrist, and elbow surgery center can help you regain comfort and confidence.

Some conditions respond well to therapy, bracing, or medication, while others may require surgical intervention to repair damage and prevent long-term complications. In Pasadena, Dr. David R. Sollaccio, an experienced hand doctor, wrist doctor, and elbow doctor, offers expert treatment and a patient-first approach, ensuring you receive the care that’s right for you.

Golfer’s Elbow & Tennis Elbow

Pain on the inside or outside of the elbow can make it difficult to grip, lift, or carry objects, whether you’re an athlete or simply going about your daily routine. Golf elbow (medial epicondylitis) and tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) occur when the tendons in the forearm become irritated or torn from overuse and repetitive movement. Many cases improve with therapy, bracing, and injections, but if symptoms persist, surgical tendon repair may be necessary to restore strength and relieve pain.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome & Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

Numbness, tingling, and weakness in the hands or fingers may be a sign of nerve compression in the wrist (carpal tunnel syndrome) or elbow (cubital tunnel syndrome). These conditions can worsen over time, making simple activities like typing, gripping, or writing uncomfortable. Early intervention with splinting and therapy can often relieve symptoms, but for severe cases, surgical decompression may be needed to free the nerve and restore function.

Torn Ligaments & Tendons

Ligaments and tendons are the support structures that keep your joints stable and moving properly. Overuse, sudden injuries, or degeneration over time can cause them to tear or weaken, leading to joint instability, swelling, and ongoing pain. While some injuries heal with therapy and bracing, a full-thickness tear may require surgical repair to restore strength and function. Our approach focuses on minimally invasive techniques whenever possible to support a smoother recovery.

Arthritis

Arthritis can slowly limit your ability to do the things you love, causing pain, stiffness, and swelling in the joints. Whether it’s osteoarthritis (wear and tear) or rheumatoid arthritis, early treatment can help manage symptoms and prevent long-term joint damage. We offer customized care plans that include therapy, joint injections, and medication, and when necessary, surgical procedures like joint fusion or replacement to improve movement and reduce pain.

Dislocations

The shoulder, elbow, and fingers are particularly prone to dislocations, which can stretch or tear the surrounding ligaments and tendons. We focus on realigning the joint, strengthening the muscles, and preventing future injuries through therapy and rehabilitation. In cases where ligaments or tendons have been significantly damaged, surgical stabilization may be required.

Bone Fractures

A fractured, or broken, bone can affect how your joint functions long-term. Some fractures heal with casting or splinting, but more complex breaks may require surgical stabilization using plates, screws, or pins to ensure proper healing. Without the right treatment, fractures can lead to misalignment, chronic pain, or reduced mobility. Our goal is to help you recover fully, ensuring your bones heal properly and you regain full use of the affected area.

Trigger Finger

If your finger or thumb feels stuck, catches when bending, or locks in place, you may have trigger finger, a condition caused by tendon irritation. This can make gripping, writing, or even buttoning a shirt frustrating. We start with splinting, therapy, and injections to ease inflammation. For cases that don’t improve, a quick, minimally invasive procedure can release the tendon, restoring smooth, pain-free motion.

Hand, Wrist & Elbow Surgeons in Pasadena, Texas

Everyday tasks like lifting, gripping, and reaching shouldn’t be painful. When injuries, chronic conditions, or overuse begin limiting movement, it’s time to seek expert care. Dr. David R. Sollaccio provides personalized treatment plans in Pasadena and throughout Harris County, helping patients recover from joint pain, nerve compression, tendon injuries, and fractures. Whether you need therapy, pain management, or advanced surgical solutions, we focus on the most effective path to healing so you can return to daily life with confidence.

Tennis Elbow Treatment & Surgery

Pain and weakness in the outer elbow from tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) can make gripping objects, lifting, or even shaking hands uncomfortable. To ease the strain on the tendons, we start with therapy, bracing, and pain management. If pain persists and tendon damage is significant, surgical tendon repair may be necessary to restore strength and function.

Elbow Sprain Treatment & Surgery

A sprained elbow can result from sudden movements, falls, or sports injuries, causing swelling, pain, and instability. While mild sprains heal with therapy and bracing, more severe cases involving torn ligaments may require surgical intervention to restore stability. Our focus is on getting you back to full mobility with a customized recovery plan.

Bursitis Treatment & Surgery

Bursitis occurs when the bursae (fluid-filled sacs that cushion the joints) become inflamed, leading to stiffness and discomfort, especially in the elbow and shoulder. Our approach includes guided injections, therapy, and pain management strategies to relieve inflammation. If bursitis becomes chronic, minimally invasive procedures may be needed to provide lasting relief.

Shoulder Pain Treatment & Surgery

Your shoulder joint plays a major role in lifting, reaching, and overall upper body movement, but conditions like rotator cuff injuries, arthritis, and bursitis can make these movements painful. We create individualized treatment plans that include therapy, injections, and rehabilitation programs to improve mobility. When necessary, arthroscopic surgery can repair damage and restore full shoulder function.

Golfer’s Elbow Treatment & Surgery

Golf elbow (medial epicondylitis) causes pain and stiffness on the inner elbow, often making lifting, gripping, or swinging motions difficult. We use therapy, bracing, and anti-inflammatory treatments to relieve strain on the tendons. If pain is caused by torn or damaged tendons, a surgical procedure may be recommended to repair the affected area and prevent long-term discomfort.

Tendinitis Treatment & Surgery

Tendinitis occurs when a tendon becomes inflamed from repetitive motion, overuse, or sudden strain, leading to stiffness and pain in the wrist, elbow, or shoulder. Our treatments focus on reducing inflammation and improving flexibility through therapy and bracing. When severe cases involve torn tendons, surgical repair may be necessary to restore movement.

Elbow Pain Treatment & Surgery

Elbow pain can stem from overuse, arthritis, or past injuries, making everyday activities uncomfortable. Our focus is on pain relief and restoring mobility through therapy, bracing, and targeted treatments. If pain persists due to torn ligaments or chronic instability, we offer surgical options to ensure long-term relief and recovery.

Sports Injuries Rehabilitation, Treatment, & Surgery

Whether you’re a competitive athlete or someone who enjoys staying active, sports injuries can sideline you from the activities you love. We provide personalized rehabilitation plans, hands-on therapy, and when necessary, surgical procedures to support a full recovery. Our goal is to help you heal properly and return to movement safely.

Arthritis Treatment & Surgery

Arthritis can make everyday tasks painful, causing stiffness, swelling, and reduced mobility in the joints over time. Whether it’s osteoarthritis from wear and tear or rheumatoid arthritis, we offer customized treatment plans that include therapy, joint injections, and medications. For advanced cases, joint fusion or replacement surgery may provide long-term relief and restore movement.

Hand & Wrist Pain Treatment & Surgery

Hand and wrist pain can make gripping, lifting, and even simple tasks uncomfortable. Whether from nerve compression, arthritis, or a repetitive strain injury, we offer customized treatments including splinting, therapy, and minimally invasive procedures to relieve discomfort and restore mobility.

What Patients Are Saying

Hear from real patients about their experiences with Dr. Sollaccio’s expert care and personalized treatment.

I recently had a very serious incident that shattered my right arm, and wrist (and other issues) which desperately needed surgery. I was referred to Dr. Sollaccio who saw me the same day and performed the surgery the following day! He did an awesome job as indicated by the fact that I am typing this message easily and pain free. And great bedside manor, very patient, I never felt rushed. It also didn’t hurt that when other doctors and nurses asked who did my surgery and I told them, it was almost a unanimous response, ‘Ohhh you got lucky, he’s good!’ Highly recommended.

Dr. Sollaccio is incredible. When I got to him my injury was two days old, infection was setting in and acute compartment syndrome. Dr. S took one look, scheduled surgery for the same night and by the time I woke up from surgery all of my excruciating pain was gone. His energy is calming and comforting, he is patient and takes the time to explain details and answer all questions. He’s such a caring Dr and truly wants the best for his patients. Thank you Dr. Sollaccio for everything you’ve done for me!

Dr. Sollaccio has provided me with excellent care and follow-up from my surgery. By the way, you can barely see the sutures and it has only been 6 weeks post operation – it is as though a plastic surgeon did the surgery. Also, the surgery is very successful
