Injuries & Conditions That May Require Orthopaedic Surgery

When pain, weakness, or stiffness affects your hand, wrist, elbow, or shoulder, even simple tasks can become challenging. At our Pearland orthopaedic hand, wrist, and elbow surgery center, we understand how frustrating it can be to live with discomfort that limits your daily activities.

Many conditions, such as nerve compression, ligament injuries, fractures, and arthritis, can worsen over time without the right care. While we always explore non-surgical treatments first, some cases require advanced procedures to restore strength, stability, and comfort. Our team is here to help you find the best treatment plan to keep you moving.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome & Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

Nerve compression in the wrist (carpal tunnel syndrome) or elbow (cubital tunnel syndrome) can cause numbness, tingling, and muscle weakness in the hand and fingers. These conditions often develop due to repetitive motions, prolonged pressure, or underlying health issues. Early intervention with splinting, therapy, and activity modifications can relieve symptoms, but for persistent cases, surgical decompression may be necessary to free the nerve and restore normal function.

Trigger Finger

Trigger finger makes it difficult to bend and straighten your finger or thumb, often causing pain, stiffness, or a locking sensation. This condition can interfere with everyday activities like gripping, typing, or holding objects. We provide anti-inflammatory treatments, splinting, and steroid injections to ease discomfort. For severe cases, we offer a quick, minimally invasive procedure to release the tightened tendon sheath and restore smooth movement.

Dislocations

A dislocated shoulder, elbow, or finger can be extremely painful and may lead to long-term instability if not properly treated. While the joint can often be realigned in an emergency setting, ligaments and tendons may be overstretched or torn, increasing the risk of future dislocations. We focus on bracing, rehabilitation, and strengthening exercises to stabilize the joint, and for cases with significant ligament damage, surgical repair may be needed for long-term joint stability.

Golfer’s Elbow & Tennis Elbow

Overuse of the forearm muscles can lead to tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) or golf elbow (medial epicondylitis), causing pain, inflammation, and reduced grip strength. These conditions often develop from repetitive motions like swinging, lifting, or gripping. We provide bracing, therapy, and targeted injections to relieve discomfort and improve function. If pain persists, we offer minimally invasive procedures to remove damaged tendon tissue and promote healing.

Bone Fractures

A fracture, or broken bone, in the hand, wrist, elbow, or shoulder can happen suddenly due to falls, sports injuries, or direct trauma. Some fractures heal well with splints or casts, while complex or displaced breaks may require surgical stabilization using plates, screws, or pins. Our goal is to ensure the bone heals properly so you can regain full strength and mobility without long-term complications.

Torn Ligaments & Tendons

Ligaments and tendons are essential for joint stability and movement, but they can become torn or damaged due to sudden injury, overuse, or degenerative wear. When torn or damaged ligaments weaken a joint, it can lead to pain, swelling, and instability, making movement difficult.

Similarly, torn or damaged tendons can affect strength and function, preventing you from performing everyday activities. We provide bracing, rehabilitation, and regenerative treatments to support healing, and when necessary, surgical reconstruction or minimally invasive tendon repair to restore full movement and stability.

Arthritis

Arthritis causes joint inflammation, stiffness, and pain, making movement uncomfortable and sometimes limiting mobility. Whether it’s caused by age-related wear and tear (osteoarthritis) or an autoimmune condition (rheumatoid arthritis), we are committed to helping you maintain an active lifestyle. We offer therapy, joint injections, and medications to manage pain, and when necessary, joint fusion or replacement surgery to restore movement and improve long-term comfort.

Bursitis Treatment & Surgery

Bursitis occurs when the bursae, small fluid-filled sacs that cushion the joints, become inflamed due to overuse or prolonged pressure. This condition often affects the elbow and shoulder, causing swelling, pain, and stiffness. We provide therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, and guided injections to relieve discomfort. For severe cases where inflammation persists, minimally invasive procedures can help drain fluid buildup and reduce joint irritation.

Elbow Pain Treatment & Surgery

Elbow pain can develop from arthritis, nerve compression, tendon injuries, or repetitive stress, making even simple movements difficult. We take a comprehensive approach, starting with bracing, therapy, and targeted injections to manage pain and inflammation. If conservative treatments are not enough, we offer advanced surgical options to repair torn or damaged ligaments and tendons, helping restore joint stability and mobility.

Hand & Wrist Pain Treatment & Surgery

Your hands and wrists are essential for everyday tasks, and pain in these areas can significantly impact your quality of life. Whether discomfort is caused by nerve compression, arthritis, or tendon injuries, we offer splinting, therapy, and injections to relieve pain and restore movement. When needed, Dr. David R. Sollaccio performs surgical procedures to address severe conditions, including carpal tunnel release, joint reconstruction, and minimally invasive tendon repair to restore function and reduce discomfort.

Tendinitis Treatment & Surgery

Tendinitis is caused by inflammation of the tendons due to repetitive movement, overuse, or strain. This condition commonly affects the wrist, elbow, and shoulder, leading to pain, swelling, and limited range of motion. We focus on therapy, bracing, and anti-inflammatory treatments to promote healing. For torn or damaged tendons, we offer surgical options to remove damaged tissue and restore function.

Sports Injuries Rehabilitation, Treatment, & Surgery

Athletes and active individuals often experience hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder injuries from repetitive movements, overuse, or trauma. Whether you have a ligament tear, tendon strain, or joint instability, we provide customized rehabilitation programs, therapy, and surgical treatments to help you recover. Our goal is to restore strength, prevent re-injury, and get you back to peak performance as safely as possible.

Elbow Sprain Treatment & Surgery

Elbow sprains occur when the ligaments supporting the joint are overstretched or torn, causing pain, swelling, and weakness. Many sprains improve with rest, bracing, and physical therapy, but when torn or damaged ligaments lead to persistent instability, surgical intervention may be necessary to restore elbow strength and prevent future injuries.

Tennis Elbow Treatment & Surgery

Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) is caused by overuse of the forearm muscles, leading to pain and inflammation on the outer elbow. We offer bracing, therapy, and anti-inflammatory injections to promote healing and reduce discomfort. In cases where torn or damaged tendons are involved, minimally invasive surgical procedures can help remove damaged tissue and restore strength.

Shoulder Pain Treatment & Surgery

Shoulder pain can result from rotator cuff injuries, bursitis, arthritis, or impingement, making overhead movements difficult and painful. We take a personalized approach to treatment, offering rehabilitation, injections, and therapy to improve function. When pain is caused by torn or damaged tendons, we provide arthroscopic procedures to repair the joint and restore stability.

Golf Elbow Treatment & Surgery

Golf elbow occurs when the tendons on the inside of your elbow become irritated from repetitive motion. Pain and weakness can make gripping and lifting objects difficult. We focus on bracing, therapy, and anti-inflammatory treatments to reduce discomfort. For severe cases involving torn tendons, we offer surgical tendon repair to restore elbow function.

Arthritis Treatment & Surgery

Arthritis in the hand, wrist, elbow, or shoulder can lead to joint inflammation, stiffness, and chronic pain. We offer therapy, joint injections, and medications to slow progression and manage discomfort. When arthritis significantly impacts daily life, Dr. David R. Sollaccio provides joint replacement and fusion surgeries to restore movement and long-term comfort.

What Patients Are Saying

Hear from real patients about their experiences with Dr. Sollaccio’s expert care and personalized treatment.

I recently had a very serious incident that shattered my right arm, and wrist (and other issues) which desperately needed surgery. I was referred to Dr. Sollaccio who saw me the same day and performed the surgery the following day! He did an awesome job as indicated by the fact that I am typing this message easily and pain free. And great bedside manor, very patient, I never felt rushed. It also didn’t hurt that when other doctors and nurses asked who did my surgery and I told them, it was almost a unanimous response, ‘Ohhh you got lucky, he’s good!’ Highly recommended.

T.L.

Dr. Sollaccio is incredible. When I got to him my injury was two days old, infection was setting in and acute compartment syndrome. Dr. S took one look, scheduled surgery for the same night and by the time I woke up from surgery all of my excruciating pain was gone. His energy is calming and comforting, he is patient and takes the time to explain details and answer all questions. He’s such a caring Dr and truly wants the best for his patients. Thank you Dr. Sollaccio for everything you’ve done for me!

Dr. Sollaccio has provided me with excellent care and follow-up from my surgery. By the way, you can barely see the sutures and it has only been 6 weeks post operation – it is as though a plastic surgeon did the surgery. Also, the surgery is very successful
