Day of Surgery

Day of Surgery

  1. Arrival & Check-In
    • Arrive at the surgical center or hospital at the instructed time.
    • Bring a valid ID and insurance card.
  2. Anesthesia & Surgery
    • Your surgeon and anesthesiologist will review the anesthesia plan with you.
    • The procedure duration depends on complexity but typically lasts between 30 minutes to 2 hours.
  3. Recovery & Discharge
    • If you are having day surgery, remember the following:
      • Have someone available to take you home, as you will not be able to drive for at least 24 hours.
      • Do not drink or eat anything in the car on the trip back home, as the combination of anesthesia, food, and car motion can often cause nausea or vomiting.
      • After arriving home, wait until you are hungry before eating. Start with a light meal and avoid greasy food for the first 24 hours.
    • Postoperative instructions, prescriptions, and follow-up appointments will be provided.
